Hi! We are Michael and Karen Brumleve. Topeka is the place we have called home for over 25 years. We have been married for 22 years and between the two of us we have 5 adult children. Caleb, Jacob, Bethany, Hallie, and Alexandra. We are blessed with 7 grandchildren and life is GREAT!

This is our story. In 2003 we were married. Michael was working a full-time job and getting his master’s in business at Washburn University. I was working full time for a local financial institution. We had been married for about a year when I heard about a local business for sale. We met with the business owner to get more details, and we knew right away that we were interested.

Since we weren’t even looking to buy a business, we had some homework to do before we could become business owners and luckily the owner was in no hurry. We spent months researching and getting things in order. Creating a vision, a goal, and our mission.

The current owner had a reputation for his quality, workmanship, and customer service, and it was very important to us to continue to give the same to our customers.

Since the current owner was comfortable working 30 hours a week or less, we had to make sure that kitchen and bathroom refinishing could generate enough revenue to support ourselves and the business. Michael called several refinishing companies to get a better idea of what we could expect. The responses were very informative and positive. Now we were ready to move forward.

January 2004, we purchased Miracle Method of Topeka, (aka The Surface Doctor) a kitchen and bathroom refinishing franchise, owned and operated by Bob Donaldson.

As part of the sale agreement Bob offered to schedule work for the month of January and would work with Michael in the field for up to 6 months if he needed him.

In December Michael attended refinishing training in Sacramento California. When we took over the business in January Bob had made good on his offer and had the calendar loaded with work. Michael was “A Man in a Van” answering the business phone with his head in a tub.

Just months into purchasing the business we hired our son Jacob. Together Michael and Jacob learned a great deal of problem solving and the real art of refinishing. One year later Karen left her job to run the business office in our home. Michael was now doing in home estimates full time. In May of 2011 we hired our daughter Bethany to help Karen in the office. We are now a family owned and operated business. In August of 2012 we moved the business into an office, with a showroom and shop.

Through the years Michael’s Resurfacing has grown as well as our knowledge of the resurfacing industry, and this has allowed us to expand the services we offer. Along with our kitchen and bathroom professional resurfacing we provide protective and decorative concrete resurfacing. We serve the Topeka community and all Northeast Kansas.

This business was an unexpected path that has blessed us with the journey it has taken us on. Thank you for trusting us and being a part of our amazing journey.
